St. Michael’s Play Garden

Identity Design

The current version of the St. Michael's Play Garden primary logo.

The tagline initially described St. Michael's as offering “Steiner Waldorf Education in Cebu”, which was updated when the preschool received their accreditation two years later.

I was asked to design the logo and promotional materials for St. Michael’s Play Garden, a preschool in Cebu City. It aims to provide child-centered, developmentally-appropriate, healing education in line with the Waldorf  educational philosophy. The play garden is a home-like environment that enables children to play outdoors and learn how to care for nature through gardening activities. They also offer Play “CAMPS” (Crafts, Arts, Music, Play, Stories), a series

of workshops designed to let children have fun while learning.

The logo features a leaf shaped like a flame. The leaf represents nature, which provides inspiration and stimulates creativity. Fire provides enlightenment, warmth, and guidance. The flame can also be seen as a visual metaphor for a vulnerable child which the school aims to nurture and protect. A slab serif typeface expresses trustworthiness and reliability.
